Alexis Tinsley
Executive Director

Alexis graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washington University, and attained a Master’s Degree in American History from Brandeis University. Both her undergraduate and graduate research focused on how children developed their identities and learned to be a part of the communities into which they were born. Her research demonstrated the impact of childhood experiences upon the course of American history. While working at a childcare center during the summer, Alexis decided that her interest in childhood socialization was much better served teaching young children of today, rather than studying children of the past. She switched her career to early childhood education and never looked back.

During her years as a Lead Teacher, Alexis cultivated her teaching skills, implementing curriculum that met the varied needs of all the children in her classes. She simultaneously served as her school’s Accreditation Coordinator, training the Director and faculty and twice leading her school to successful accreditation with the highest marks. Since leaving the classroom, Alexis has served as a Director of Early Childhood, directing all of aspects of her school’s functioning. Alexis has participated in extensive professional development, covering a wide variety of topics in early childhood education, throughout her career and is excited to bring her knowledge and expertise to the SSDS community.
