Silver Spring Day School (SSDS) provides students and parents a variety of enriching opportunities that extend beyond the school day. These opportunities include:
Each year, SSDS holds school-wide “SSDS Days.” SSDS days are scheduled on two different days so that all the children can participate. SSDS days may include the following: a Halloween parade, Pizza & Pajama Day, St. Patrick’s Day Hunt, Earth Day, Mother’s Day celebration, and Father’s Day celebration.
- Halloween Parades, October
- Celebrate an Author Week, January
- Pizza Pajama Days, January
In-house Field Trips
Every year SSDS plans several in-house field trips for the children to enjoy. These field trips include storytellers, puppet shows, musicians, and more.
Children demonstrate their school and community spirit by wearing a crazy hat or hair-do, dressing in their favorite sports jersey, or wearing their clothes backwards or inside/out.
Share Your Heart Campaign
The SSDS community comes together to reach out to those less fortunate by collecting items for homeless children. This special event provides a great chance to practice giving to others and talk with our children about kids who are less fortunate.
By Parents for Parents
Many times parents organize things that make life at SSDS just a little easier. Such parent driven activities include: playgroups for siblings, babysitting swaps, summer get-togethers and more.
Classroom teachers with the help of parents in the class organize other in-house field trips as well as field trips outside the school throughout the year that might include: Rock Creek Planetarium, apple picking, a trip to the Discovery Building to see the T-Rex and much more. Field trips outside the school are only offered in the 4s and pre-K classes
