Support SSDS
What do you love about Silver Spring Day School?

What’s your favorite part of SSDS? The nature-based playground? The social-emotional tools our kids use? The play forest in the classroom? These amazing resources are essential to the SSDS experience, but what we all love about our school costs money. Our families’ continued support helps us raise the funds needed to keep our school thriving.

Here comes the budget talk. We know, yawn. But sometimes the most boring conversations yield the most exciting results – like learning how we spend funds to enhance your child’s preschool experience. SSDS is not only a preschool but also a 501(c)(3) business. Your annual tuition covers our basic operating costs like rent, insurance, staff salaries, and just enough “glitter” to hide your fridge under art projects.

Your tuition does not cover purchasing new equipment, upgrading our facilities, or investing in additional staff development opportunities for all SSDS employees. We can keep the school running without investing in these needs, but our ability to do so better positions us to educate your children.

SSDS uses fundraising dollars for needs not covered in our annual budget. This invludes repainting the parking lot to increase pedestrian safety, improving drainage on the playground, developing the website, replacing old equipment in the classrooms, and sending teachers to social-emotional development conferences. And for less than $25,000, we addressed everything above, plus other incidental costs, in the last school year.

This year, we’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $75,000 through fundraising activities to:

  • Send teachers to conferences on social-emotional development
  • Cover costs of the Classroom Technology Fund
  • Increase the cash reserve closer to best-practice levels

Next time you think about your favorite part of SSDS, remember that you can help make our school and community thrive through your continued involvement and financial contributions. Every dollar that you donate is tax deductible.
